Dr. Georgios Zontos, MD, PhD is an internationally recognized physician–scientist and leader in hair restoration surgery, with extensive executive, academic, and clinical experience at the highest international level. He served for more than 12 years as Medical Director of Hårklinikken, Denmark, where he oversaw clinical excellence, research integration, and advanced patient care within one of Europe’s most prominent hair restoration institutions.

Dr. Zontos holds academic degrees in Physics, Medicine, and Medical Physics (BSc, MD, MSc), as well as a PhD in Medicine, reflecting a rare interdisciplinary foundation that underpins his scientific, analytical, and evidence-based approach to hair restoration surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and has been a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (FISHRS) since 2017, in recognition of his sustained contributions to clinical practice, research, and education. He also serves as an Oral Protocol Examiner for the ABHRS certification examinations, contributing directly to the maintenance of international professional standards.
In parallel with his clinical career, Dr. Zontos holds multiple senior leadership and governance roles within leading international professional organizations. He currently serves as Elected Secretary of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), Chairman of the ABHRS Credentialing Committee, and as a Member of the ABHRS Board of Directors (since 2022), participating in strategic governance, policy development, and the global credentialing of hair restoration surgeons.
He previously served as Chairman of the ISHRS Europe Council (2022– 2023) and as a Member of the ISHRS Europe Council (2021– 2023), contributing to regional strategy, educational initiatives, and cross-border professional collaboration within the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Dr. Zontos serves as Chairman of the ISHRS Morbidity & Mortality Course, a role central to patient safety, quality assurance, and evidence-based surgical practice. In recognition of his expertise in live surgical education, he was appointed Chairman of the ISHRS Europe Live Surgery Workshop 2024, held in Milan, Italy, where he directed scientific content, faculty coordination, and procedural standards for one of ISHRA’s most demanding educational platforms.
Academically, Dr. Zontos has maintained an active research presence. As a Researcher at the University of Patras School of Medicine, he coordinated a major hair transplantation research program from 2010 to 2016. Since 2019, he has served as Scientific Coordinator of the FUE Summer School, hosted at the University of Patras in collaboration with the FUE Europe Society and the Department of Dermatology of the University of Patras Medical School, contributing to the structured training of physicians in advanced FUE techniques.
Dr. Zontos was also a member of the scientific team responsible for the development of Follysis, an advanced, purpose-built software platform designed to optimize hair restoration practice. The system enables comprehensive patient data archiving, treatment planning, outcome quantification, and early, accurate diagnosis of hair loss, supporting both clinical excellence and research outcomes.
He is a fully licensed physician registered with Sundhedsstyrelsen (the Danish National Board of Health), holding full authorization to practice medicine independently in Denmark.
